EP 52: Michelle Janikian – Changing the Narrative

Western medicine always sells us the same idea: that one pill or treatment will cure you completely. Now that CBD and psilocybin have become more mainstream, we’re starting to hear the same thing about plant-based treatments. Michelle is here to push back on that narrative, and to tell you how you can use alternative medicine, not as a one-time cure, but as a continuing roadmap to wellbeing and happiness.

Michelle Janikian is a journalist and the author of Your Psilocybin Mushroom Companion, the down-to-earth guide that details everything you need to know about taking magic mushrooms safely and mindfully. Michelle actively covers psychedelic and cannabis education, harm reduction, and research in her work, which has been featured in PlayboyRolling StoneHigh Times, and others. Currently, she’s the editor in chief of the Psychedelic’s Today blog and a co-host on their podcast segment, Solidarity Fridays. She’s passionate about the healing potential of psychedelic plants and substances, and the legalization and de-stigmatization of all drugs.

On this episode of Good Dudes Grow, see the connections between plant-based medicine, healing, and fitness. First, hear Michelle’s story, how she came to alternative medicine, and how she started her work with psilocybin and CBD. Next, hear how she’s trying to change the mainstream view; she wants the world to see mushrooms as an opportunity to learn about yourself, your trauma, and the steps it will take to heal. Finally, hear Gary and Michelle talk about how microdosing can impact your fitness training and help you unlock your potential. Throughout the episode, Michelle shares her current research in order to help you become aware of your fear and pain, and move forward into your most capable self.

What You’ll Learn:

  • What a microdose can do for an athlete
  • How Michelle is changing the narrative around mushrooms, LSD, and cannabis
  • Why Michelle believes that each individual must choose their own journey in reality-altering medicine, like whether to have a therapist present or not
  • And so much more!

Favorite Quote:

“Mushrooms are not a “take one and you’re cured” type of drug: you take them, and a whole bunch of stuff comes up. What they show you is that you’re responsible for your own healing; and that makes it worth it.”
