EP 31: Sean Hardwick — A Legal Expert Talks The Future Of Cannabis & CBD Law
As a Regulatory Compliance Analyst at Mr. Cannabis Law, Sean Hardwick is exceptionally well-versed in the legalities of cannabis and CBD.
In just the past two years, he’s drafted over 17 marijuana state license applications, business plans, and operating procedures for dispensaries in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, and Utah. And he’s also one of the people responsible for drafting House Bill 549 — a bill to get psychedelics legalized in the state of Florida. Recognizing that he’s joined an industry on the cusp of some pretty significant change, Sean has a nuanced view of what that change means.
On the one hand, today’s emerging cannabis industry and its attendant laws are “relatively new.” On the other, he says, cannabis has “been in our existence for thousands of years and even in the United States up until it was officially outlawed in the 1970s. But it’s starting to make a comeback; it’s starting to become more mainstream in society, especially as hemp-derived CBD products are more accepted. I think we’re going to see a lot more acceptance.”
In this episode of Good Dudes Grow, Gary and Sean talk about what’s currently happening in the cannabis and hemp industries from a legal standpoint, the challenges being faced, and the direction Sean sees things going.
What You’ll Learn:
- Why current laws in Florida favor “multi-state” cannabis operators with “lots of capital behind them” — and why that’s a problem
- What the growing demand for delta-8 and delta-9 THC means legally
- Why Mr. Cannabis Law’s bill focuses on psilocybin products, and how this could benefit people
- And much more!
Favorite Quote:
“Education is the absolute key…. Many people can’t differentiate between marijuana and hemp, and a lot of people just don’t understand, especially on the governmental level. So I think getting in the ears of every single policymaker — whether it’s a legislator, even on the executive level, or just the heads of every single governmental branch — I think just the more support they hear from the public is how we’re going to make these changes.”
